Soul Moon’s Maroons is a site-specific, interactive and collaborative installation inspired by the various utopian histories of North Carolina. Made entirely from repurposed post-consumer materials, this exhibition delves into three former Utopian communities that existed within the state: Soul City, Bold Moon Farm, and the Maroons of the Great Dismal Swamp--and how their respective rises and falls reflect global struggles for peace, stability, sustainability and self-determination.

Students in several Elon University Department of Art classes were collaborators in this exhibition, creating post-consumer artworks using materials culled from their own daily consumption. Student creations were placed within the clamshell ‘vitrines’ of the central, spherical artwork ‘Archival Structure 14’, joining 24 other works created by School of Design Students at the University of Louisiana, Ruston for the 2022 exhibition In Arcadia Ego.

Students also created works that were placed within the central alcoves of a new work, Reliquaries 10.
